Founder and CEO of Jeff Wyler Automotive Family
Jeff Wyler is the founder and CEO of the Jeff Wyler Automotive Family, a major U.S. automotive retail group with over 23 locations across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, renowned for innovation and community engagement.
Early Life: Jeff Wyler was born on April 1, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His early years were largely nomadic as he followed his mother and stepfather, a General Motors executive, through cities across Ohio, Arizona, and New Mexico, finally graduating high school in El Paso, Texas.
Education and Early Career: After a brief stint in the U.S. Army, Wyler attended Ohio State University, spent a year at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, and then earned a degree in Finance from the University of Cincinnati in 1965. He began his professional career with General Motors as a sales trainee, advancing to District Sales Manager and Truck Sales Engineer.
Entrepreneurial Journey: In 1972, Wyler left GM to enter automotive retail, opening his first Chevrolet dealership in Batavia, Ohio, in 1973 during the Arab oil embargo. Despite challenging market conditions, he sold 180 cars in his first year and innovated in marketing by using television ads with the slogan, “Cars, like eggs, are cheaper in the country”, to attract customers located outside Cincinnati.
Wyler pioneered the auto mall concept by consolidating multiple dealerships into one location, providing convenience and a wide selection of domestic and imported vehicles. Over five decades, the Jeff Wyler Automotive Family has grown to 23 locations with over 40 automotive brands, employing nearly 2,500 people and selling approximately 45,000 vehicles annually.
Community Involvement: Jeff Wyler has been highly active in community service, holding leadership roles in organizations such as the Batavia Rotary, Clermont YMCA, Health Alliance of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees (Chairman, 2006–2009), and through the Wyler Family Foundation, which contributes over $1 million annually to local nonprofits.
He also holds a minority ownership in the Cincinnati Reds, a position tied to his early years selling tickets to support his education.
Legacy: Recognized as a visionary in the automotive retail industry, Wyler’s impact spans business innovation, marketing strategy, and community leadership. The Jeff Wyler Automotive Family continues to operate under family leadership, with his son David Wyler serving as CEO and son-in-law Scott Bristow as COO.
